Department of Pharmacology

Established in 2012, the Department of Pharmacology caters to the requirements of postgraduate students and research scholars and offers a specialisation in Pharmacology as part of its Masters in Pharmacy (M. Pharm) course. This course comprises of duration of 2 years split into 4 semesters. The objective of this program is to provide students an advanced training in several facets of pharmacology, molecular biology, pre-clinical and studies in toxicology. Set up with the most leading-edge facilities and on par with the finest colleges in the country, the Pharmacology department boasts of state-of-the-art infrastructure which consists of fully equipped advanced laboratories.

Keeping in mind the requirements of the specialised training needs of students, the department also has an animal house approved by the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) under the aegis of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

This facility has been set up primarily to encourage the growing demand for high quality research in the nascent, yet challenging field of Experimental Pharmacology. It is used by the department as a full-fledged facility for teaching, training and research. Another important aspect which throws light on the quality of this department is the presence of faculty members who have 200 research publications to their credit in peer-reviewed national and international journals.

A remarkable triumph of this department is also the participation and presentation of the research work of their faculty, research scholars and postgraduate students in conferences held in India and abroad. To keep in pace with latest in technology and industry practices, the department has signed a Memorandum of Undertaking (MOU) with two reputed Indian firms. In addition to this, students undergoing postgraduate studies are trained in pharmacology and toxicology. This enables them to pursue careers in the fields of research, regulatory practices and administration in Industrial, Healthcare and Academic domains.

To make the students industry-ready and take up challenges in the field of academia and research both in the pharmaceutical and public sectors, the department aims at prepping them with adequate knowledge and practical experience. At present, there are 9 highly qualified and committed faculty members with decades of industry and research experience in a wide range of specialisations between them. Against an annual intake of 15 members in this department, we currently have 30 postgraduate students. We are also delighted to inform you that 108 students from our department have passed out with flying colours.
